Individual Learning Strategy

Different individuals have different learning and cognitive profiles.

As an educational psychologist, Dr. Young is skilled in identifying particularities which enhance the learning outcomes of unique learners.

Young Minds Consulting offers private learning strategy sessions for learners of all ages and diverse content areas. While we focus on standard criteria for evaluating the learning processes of individuals, we also evaluate particular aspects of cognition which are relevant to our student’s learning success, such as short-term and long-term memory, or metacognition.

As we study these cognitive resources in different settings for each of our students, our goals become thoughtfully tailored to ensure they accomplish desired goals. In doing so, we do not aim for traditional diagnosing, but rather focus on creating a map of each child’s thinking patterns, which will helps us understand its uniqueness and gear our work towards maximizing their potential.

FAQs

What happens during the sessions?

During the first 3-5 sessions, all students work directly with Dr Young. During this time, we are working to develop an understanding of how the student’s mind works with the specific material. After that time period and depending on the students needs, they may then work on a weekly basis with a tutoring associate to execute the learning plan and have check in meetings with Dr Young periodically.

Will there be homework assignments?

Usually, yes! It is critical to the learning process to practice independently, and since there is often a week between sessions, it also serves to bridge sessions and reinforce the material. However, the amount and frequency of homework is decided with the caregiver and can be adjusted at any time.

Will it be online or in-person?

Most sessions are online via Zoom, though some can be in-person if the client is based in New York City.

What equipment is needed for the online sessions?

At minimum, students will need a computer or tablet and an internet connection. Ideally, students will have a computer for the video portion of the call and a tablet that is also logged into Zoom in order to comfortably write on the screen.

How often are the meeings?

This depends on the specific student and their needs, but typically sessions are 1 - 2 times per week. Two times is ideal for most students, but we always try to work what makes the client most comfortable.

How much do the sessions cost?

The hourly rate shifts depending on who is conducting the session. Contact us for our current rates.
